It's a reasonable line of thinking, though. Like, what if I have a startup exit in my 40s and I retire. What does "income" look like? I have a lot of questions for hypothetical scenarios still.
NextBut, I also max my traditional 401k and then contribute to a Roth IRA. So I'm basically doing what the article suggests.

NextIndeed.

I guess I see a lot of this as needing to know your entire future. I have to decide if I'm moving to a low/no income tax state when I'm retired now in order to make the best decision? ๐ค
I just assume I'll have a lot of money and go from there. ๐

Either way, it's good to involve them in deciding.
You might also need to decide how hands-on YOU will be. Is the stack important for you or them?

Good+ code quality?
Release time?
Site performance?
User experience?
Other things?
If code quality and release time are important, you have to get devs comfortable. If they can't be comfortable in your stack, they should change it.
NextWhat are the goals for the dev team?
